Coconut Aminos to the Rescue!
I have been craving sushi! White rice and soy sauce didn’t make the cut for the paleo menu, (Soy, among other terrible things I will expand on in a later post, is a legume) so I have been left with visions of california rolls dancing in my head.
Enter Coconut Aminos.
I don’t know who looked at a tree and decided its sap could be a food item, but it worked for the maple syrup guy and I am SO pleased to report that it worked for the coconut palm guy too!! The sap of the palm tree tastes exactly like soy sauce. It’s gluten free, non GMO, and has so many amino acids! So I went to Seaside Market, bought myself some sashimi grade ahi, wasabi and ginger and went to town with my coconut aminos. Craving satisfied, guilt-free!

Also pictured is the locally renowned “Cardiff Crack.” I will say no more so there’s still some left when we try to buy it for memorial day…
**Word of caution with the coconut aminos. They naturally ferment a little bit in the bottle, so DO NOT SHAKE before opening, or you will be cleaning amino fizz from every nook of your kitchen for a week…
